Paddle Boarding (SUP) Near Me
Stand up paddle boarding (or SUP) is quickly becoming one of the fastest-growing paddling activities whether it is a paddle board rental on vacation, finding a local lake nearby to paddle board, or trying SUP yoga.
Paddle boards are easy to transport, and super fun to experience if you’ve never tried it before. The major benefit of a paddleboard over kayaks or canoes is the vantage point that you get when you’re standing up. You can see so much more and take in not only the surrounding sights, but also see more in the water below you.

Different Types of Stand Up Paddle Board Rentals
There are many different types of SUP boards that can be rented from different outfitters, here are the most common types:
Surfing SUPs which are typically rented at beach locations like California, Hawaii and Florida which are popular for SUP Surfing.
All-Around Paddle Boards are the ‘recreation kayak’ of paddle boarding, the one board that does it all. Inflatable boards also fall under this category.
Group Paddle Board rentals are a new category that allow 4-8 people to paddle together and have a paddle party!
Choosing a Paddle Board
There are also other factors to SUP paddle board rentals like:
Type of Construction
There are two types of paddleboards here, inflatable SUPs or solid (hard shell) SUPs.
Inflatable SUPs
Inflatable Paddle Boards are especially great as they can be packed down and transported in any vehicle without needing racks or a large vehicle. Their carry bag is typically a backpack so you can carry them distances to launch if needed. Inflating them only takes around 10 minutes and they are soft yet durable.
Their softer deck is also great for yoga!
Solid Paddle Boards
Solid, or hard shell SUPs are more rigid and don’t flex or ‘give’ as much so they are faster, are better for larger paddlers or if you have gear that you’d like to carry. They require a way to transport them unless you are renting at the take out point.
Hull Shapes
There are planing board, which have a wider rounded board and the tip sticks out of the water and are more maneuverable. These are great for recreational paddler when changing direction quickly is important.
Displacement boards are rarely rented and have pointed like a kayak and are better for longer tours or tracking in a long straight line.
Paddle Board Size
Length: Longer boards, between 12-14′ paddle faster and paddle in a straighter line. Shorter boards are easy to maneuver and are more fun and playful.
Width: The wider the board, the more stable it will be.
Terminology: Stand Up Paddle Board is shortened and often referred to as a SUP or a SUP board.
