Zion E-Biking Overview

Electric biking in Zion National Park is a great way to cover plenty of ground, see all the beautiful sites of Zion, and still have some energy left over for a hike or two. By combining a little bit of electric power with your own human power, you can experience this beautiful part of the world with greater freedom and see more of the sights!

Why Zion E-Biking Is Great

Zion National Park is a wonderful place to explore for so many reasons – the gorgeous scenery, the dramatic vistas, the incredible geography. We also think there are some things that make this area uniquely suited to e-biking. Here’s what we love about the Zion e-bikes experience!

A Great Replacement for a Vehicle

Zion is a popular tourist destination, with millions of visitors each year.  For this reason, shuttle buses now operate during the popular months of February through November.  The shuttle buses prevent traffic jams and parking issues, but the lines for the shuttle can also be very long during peak months.  For that reason, and e-bike is a great mode of transportation around the park!

A Little Help on Hilly Terrain

Zion National Park is a wonderful e-biking destination because it’s incredibly hilly terrain. E-biking in this region makes some very difficult roads and paths accessible to people of differing abilities, including children and seniors.

Good for the Environment

While you could technically see all the same places in Zion National Park via the shuttle bus, we love e-bike rentals in Zion because they are so environmentally friendly! Using an e-bike allows you to get some exercise without wearing yourself out, and it avoid the carbon output of driving a car around the park.

Flexibility To See It All

Traveling via Zion e-bike rentals means you get to travel between trailheads at your own pace – no waiting on a shuttle to take you from one place to another – and you still have enough reserved energy to go on the hikes you want. It’s the perfect combination of two favorite outdoor activities: biking and hiking!

Where to Go E-Biking in Zion

Electric bikes are allowed on all paved roads in Zion National Park and they are also allowed on the Pa’arus Trail. These are the best places to go e-biking in Zion.

**Note: we do not promote electric bikes on mountain bike trails, but we believe they are a great way to get around on paved paths and gravel roads (where allowed), replacing a vehicle motor and avoiding traffic!**

The Pa’arus Trail

The Pa’rus Trail is a 3.4 mile out-and-back trail that runs along the Virgin River between the Zion Canyon Visitor Center and the Canyon Junction. It is a paved trail shared with pedestrians and leashed pets. This is one of the most popular biking trails in park.

Zion Scenic Drive

You’ll share this roadway with shuttle buses and possibly some cars of people staying at the Zion Lodge, but it’s a beautiful ride. It also takes you to some of the top hiking areas in the park, including the entrance to the Virgin Narrows for some Zion canyoneering and the trailhead for Angel’s Landing.

Note: riding a Zion e-bike on this road means you must yield to all of the shuttle buses. That means stopping completely and putting down a foot to let the bus pass.

Zion-Mount Carmel Highway

If you’re looking for a place to use your Zion National Park electric bike rental, the Zion-Mount Carmel Highway is a bold choice. This paved road runs all the way through the park and it’s a challenging ride – even using Zion e-bike rentals. It gains almost 1000 feet of elevation in less than 3 miles! You also share the road with cars, so it requires some comfort and familiarity with road biking technique and etiquette. Furthermore, you’ll need to hitch a ride through the tunnel, as you aren’t allowed to bike through it. That said, if you’re using Zion National Park electric bikes, you can see the highlights of the entire park this way!

When to Go E-Biking in Zion National Park

Temperatures for riding in Zion are pretty wonderful almost year-round – it’s snow on the roads that would limit the e-biking season in the park. Of course, the mid-day temperatures in the summer can be scorching, but even the summer months offer some relief in the early morning and late part of the day.

Snow starts in November and the park gets its heaviest snowfall in December and February. In March, Zion National Park sees really high rates of visitors, which means crowding on the roads from both cars and other bikes. To ensure quiet rides and no snow, we recommend fall as the best time to e-bike in Zion National Park. Peak Zion e-biking season is usually the spring months of April and May and the fall months of September and October.

Getting to Zion National Park

Zion National Park is in a wild, fairly remote part of southern Utah, so the nearest airport is the Las Vegas McCarran International Airport, which is about a 2.5 hour drive from the park. Some people also arrive via Salt Lake City, about a 4.5 hour drive away. There is a lot to see in and around Zion, so many people will come in from these airports and rent a car so they can make the most of their vacation in the region. Other popular recreation spots near Zion include Bryce Canyon National Park, Cedar Breaks National Monument, and Capitol Reef National Park.
