Waikiki Bay

There is no shortage of places to surf in Oahu.  Waikiki is just a stone's throw from Honolulu, and the water is calm with light winds.  Waikiki is one of the most popular tourist destinations in all of Hawaii, and is centrally located just 20 minutes from Honolulu airport.  It is world renowned for great surfing.  Waikiki has calm enough waters to satisfy the beginner and the more experienced surfers.  The two-mile stretch of reef-sheltered beach is among the best location in the Hawaiian Islands for any ocean activity - from surfing, stand up paddlboarding to outrigger canoeing or swimming.

Q How long is the surf lesson

The surf lesson lasts 1.5 hours.

Q What is your cancellation policy?

Customers will receive a full refund or credit with 24 hours notice of cancellation. Customers will also receive a full refund or credit in case of operator cancellation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Contact us by phone to cancel or inquire about a cancellation. No-shows will be charged the full price.

Q Are there waves every day?

Waikiki is a magical place. There is always something to ride, although there are days when the waves may be too big and not safe. If this happens, you can cancel for a refund or reschedule.

Q Do you have a place to hold my belongings?

Yes, we have a place to keep your bag. Bring a bag/backpack that can be closed with all your belongings inside.

Q When should I arrive for my surf lesson?

Please arrive 15 minutes before your lesson starts in order to sign a waiver. Parents must be present if the child taking a surf lesson is under 18.

Q How old does my child have to be to take a lesson?

We have had children as young as 4 years old take our surf lessons. Normally, children from age 4 to 7 prefer to ride with the instructor.

It is always best for any child to know how to swim well and feel comfortable and confident in the ocean before they take a surf lesson. If they don’t swim well, they often get scared and it makes their experience not a fun one. It’s always best to wait until they are ready.

Q What should I bring?

Please bring a towel and come with your swimwear on.

Q Do I need to know how to swim?

Yes. For a group lesson, you definitely should know how to swim well. For private or semi-private lessons, you should know how to swim comfortably across the small end of the pool. Your surfboard will have a leash connected to it that will be tied to your ankle, which will give you lots of support, but you still will want to know how to swim.

Q Do you have a photographer?

Yes. Photos are additional to your lesson. You will be able to view your photos after your lesson and purchase any you’d like.

Q Can my family watch me while I surf?

Yes, they are welcome to. However, we find that families often won’t stay on the beach and watch the entire time.

Q Can I bring my camera or go pro?

There is a lot going on during your lesson, so it may not be the best choice to bring a camera. It’s best to come and just enjoy the lesson rather than worry about taking photos. You can purchase photos of your lesson for an additional fee.

Q Do you have rashguards for us to use?

Yes, we have them available. You can also purchase your own at the Billabong store to use and take with you for the rest your trip.
