The Moab bike rental shops offer the following types of mountain bikes:
- Hardtail bikes – best for smooth trails or paved paths but if you’re going to do anything technical, we recommend a full-suspension bike rental.
- Full-suspension bikes
- Cross country: these have the least amount of suspension (travel) but are efficient at pedaling and climbing hills
- Trail: Recommended for the best all-around full suspension bike to go with in Moab.
- Enduro / All-mountain bikes: these are best for doing shuttle rides like the Whole Enchilada, Porcupine Rim, Mag 7 etc. as they are better at going downhill than they are up. But, they still climb and pedal surprisingly well.
Within each of these categories, you will find a good/better/best option which comes down to the components of the bikes like shocks, brakes, drivetrain, dropper seat posts, etc. which make the bikes more expensive, and therefore more expensive to rent. But these aren’t just ”fluffy” upgrades, they truly help you get a better ride in Moab because they perform better over rocks, climb better, easier to handle using the dropper seat post and you’ll have a much better overall experience. If you can afford it, I would recommend going for the higher quality bikes.
